Full Round Log Homes – Is There a Doctor in the House?
When people think of owning a log home, they likely think of the full round, stacked log home. While this may be the traditional way log homes have been built, the industry has moved forward to find new and better ways to build log homes, overcoming the vulnerability to problems these homes face.

The issues faced by a traditional log homeowner are so prevalent, they have spawned a cottage industry of log repairmen, called “Log Doctors.” Some of the issues they routinely deal with include:

  • Perpetual maintenance – Chinking, an acrylic paste, is used to fill gaps between logs. It can cure at different rates around a log home, and is subject to tearing, which creates gaps in the walls.
  • Shrinking, twisting, and settling occurs with stacked logs, which can lead to:
    • Effort required to hand-crank screw jacks to bring the roof down over time
    • Broken windows
    • Doors that no longer swing freely
    • Adjustments required for window and door trim
    • Gaps between logs, which allows air, water, and insects to enter the home
    • Pinched wiring from settled channels in the logs
    • Rework of plumbing
    • Cracked fireplaces
  • Full round log home builders try to estimate how logs will shrink, on average to minimize the impact of shrinkage. Will your home be average?
  • Logs, if improperly maintained with waterproof stains, may rot and need to be replaced. If the bad log is on the bottom of the stack, the entire wall will need to be disassembled!
  • Dead standing trees are sometimes used to create logs that minimize shrinking and settling. Insects killed these trees, which makes the stability of the log questionable.

Building a Better Log Home
Canavi Log Homes and Timber Products was on the forefront of changing how log homes should be built, to give homeowners a higher quality home, and avoiding all of the issues faced by full round log homeowners. They were the first company to create a system built log house, which uses standard two-by-six framed construction, with half logs applied to one or both sides of the wall.

The result is a log home with the same look and feel of a traditional full round log home, without the problems. Additional benefits of a Canavi Log Home include:

  • Easier to insure and finance. Because the home is built in a more standard way, banks and finance companies feel more comfortable in offering you as a homebuyer more traditional policies and loan products.
  • Better insulation properties. Our two-by-six wall panels are filled with standard R-19 insulation, covered by a vapor barrier, and then completely sealed with caulk. This provides insulation properties that go well above what a full round log home can offer.
  • Easier to finish. With standard wall surfaces, the homeowner has infinite flexibility on how to decorate. Paint, wallpaper, or log panels – the choice is yours.
  • Faster onsite build. All Canavi Log Homes are system built, with each log test-fit to wall sections. A Canavi qualified contractor, with experience building our homes, meets the shipment of house components on your property. Construction problems are avoided and the house goes up quickly, leading to a much more positive customer experience.
  • Less maintenance brings more enjoyment. Our patented chink-less construction eliminates most required maintenance, giving you more time to enjoy your beautiful log home.

Your dream deserves a better log home. Build a Canavi Log Home.
