Canavi’s Eco-commitment

Trees are a 100% renewable resource, and Canavi Log Homes and Timber Products is dedicated to doing business, only with suppliers that actively work to protect forest lands. Potential suppliers are evaluated on their ability to demonstrate sustainable forestry practices.

The natural lifecycles of plants and animals in a forest are dependent on disturbances like forest fires to remain healthy. With today’s advancements in forestry techniques, harvesting methods can be designed to simulate the productive effects of regeneration. This results in opportunities to use forest resources in a responsible way, while ensuring the health of our forests for generations to come.

California’s forests are the most protected in the world. Regulations require comprehensive ecological plans for foresters in this state to harvest trees. Studies evaluate the cumulative effects of past and future activities on a forest’s ecosystem, and outline the long term impact of proposed harvesting strategies. Permits are awarded to forestry operations based upon the ability of their strategies to sustain the long term viability of California forest lands.

Did you know that California forestry operations plant an average of seven new trees for each one they harvest? Canavi suppliers participate in, and support the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). The SFI goes beyond replanting efforts to include protection and improvement of other forestry impacts, such as soil productivity, fish and wildlife habitats, water quality, and maintaining the diversity of plant and animal species.

According to the California Forest Products Commission, with state efforts to protect forest land, the result has been more growth than harvest in California forests over the past 25 years.
